New research shows that the more curious children are, the better they do academically in reading and math once they enter school. In this article, we will show you how our stem educational track toys help to nurturing kids’ curiosity through play.
Curiosity is at the heart of all learning, touching something interesting, asking a question, leaning in to look closely, repeating an action again and again to see what happens…All of these are ways we use our curiosity to discover how the world works.
However, it may seem like that curiosity is something you have or you don’t. The truth is that all children are curious. And there’s a lot that parents can do to nurture a child’s natural desire to explore and learn. In this article, we would like to combine with construction building track blocks to explain how to nurture curiosity.
The first way to nurture curiosity is to practice the 5 W’s of wondering. What does it mean? That is to look for opportunities to model asking questions and wondering together: Who, what, when, where and why.
And the second is to point out changes. Noticing changes and patterns in the world around us sparks a kid’s desire to “find out “how things work. Do you see the difference of these two track sets? Just let me pull back the car, do you know why it can run to the end from the track without lap? When I PRESS THE EMITTER, do you know why it can go through the loop?
Rather than stepping in with the answer every time, ask your toddler: The car flies away the track, why do you think that happens? What can we do to make another shape? And what shall we consider to make sure the car runs normally on track? At this moment, letting your child experiment in this way builds his problem-solving skills. And it nurtures curiosity and help him cultivate his “inner scientist”. Just allow them to try and fail, and they grow.
